The small city of Chester is located in eastern central Virginia, not far from the capital city of Richmond. Chester has a lot to offer, and families love living here because of the great local schools, clean and safe streets, and high quality of living. Many residents of Chester commute every day to Richmond, and the close proximity of Chester to Richmond provides residents with access to many big city amenities, including job opportunities. Whether you live here or you’re just stopping by, Chester is a city with something for everyone.
Before Chester became a popular suburb of Richmond, this land was primarily used for farming. Once the railroad established several stops through the area, however, more and more people began to settle here. Even though this city is primarily residential, the early 2000s have seen an increase in industrial development and business districts.
One of Chester’s claims to fame is its rich history. If you’re ever in the area and looking for a historical experience, you should check out the Henricus Historical Park. This park takes visitors back in time to the 1600s, when this area was just recently settled by the English pioneers who had arrived to the “new world”. Of course, this land was inhabited by native tribes, including the Appomattocks tribe. If that name sounds familiar, it is likely because you’ve heard of Pocahontas, who belonged to the Appomattocks tribe. Another “must see” if you’re ever in Chester is the R. Garland Dodd Park at Point of Rocks. This park is huge, nearly two hundred acres, and his very significant in Virginia’s history. The park is the site of several Civil War battles, and even among the trails and park roads you can still see what remains of several Civil War structures. Besides having historical significance, this park contains many fun outdoor spaces, including sports facilities and nature trails, picnic areas and playgrounds. It’s a great place to bring the whole family here in Chester.
Families that live in Chester feel that they have access to good schools. Located within the Chesterfield County Public School district, Chester has access to a number of public elementary schools, public middle schools, and public high schools. Beyond public schools, Chester also has several private and charter schools to choose from as well. For students of any age or grade level, local Chester tutors are available to provide extra help. These tutors can meet with each student one-on-one to help them develop better study skills and eventually reach their individual educational goals.

Families share goals and scheduling preferences through a short intake. That information becomes a learner profile. Grade Potential then introduces your profile to a professional independent tutor whose background aligns. Once the tutor accepts, you’re introduced directly and sessions can begin.
Our packages are highly customizable based on your budget, preferred session cadence, time frame, location, and a few other factors. You’ll be presented with clear pricing before you begin. We support families in choosing the session length and cadence that works best for their individual situation; no hard sales tactics and no obligation to purchase a long-term package.
