According to San Francisco Bay Area tutors the area is more commonly simply known as the “Bay Area.” It is a very densely populated region located in Northern California; currently there are approximately eight million residents. Which cements the “Bay Area” in the top fifty, as one of the most populous urban areas in the world. Within the United States it has the second largest amount of fortune 500 companies located in the region, most of which are in the high tech sector. In this respect it is second only to New York. The region also houses, educates and employs the second highest amount of college graduates, second only to Washington D.C.
Within the “Bay Area” there are three major cities, San Francisco, San Jose and Oakland that are each distinct and unique. There are in total nine counties that come under the banner of the San Francisco Bay Area, these are Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Solano and Sonoma.
The city of San Francisco is the financial center of California; it was founded just days before the Declaration of Independence was signed on June 29th 1776. Colonists from Spain named San Francisco for St Francis of Assisi. Saint Francis of Assisi was famous for being the ‘patron saint of animals,’ he was an Italian Roman Catholic friar and deacon, alive until 1226. In 1228 he was designated the Patron Saint of Italy, and feasts were held annually on October 4th where blessings of animals were common. According to Bay Area tutors St Francis of Assisi was originally baptized as Giovanni and not Francis. His father who had a penchant for all things French began calling his son Francesco and the name stuck. In 1209 Francis heard a sermon that altered his perception on life, and he decided to follow a life of poverty and simplicity and to not be weighed down by material belongings. He took to preaching about his beliefs and what he had understood from the sermon Matthew 10:9, and shared what Matthew says Christ shared in the sermon he heard, that no money or shoes were needed or should be taken, that the Kingdom of Heaven was upon them. He slowly gathered followers and they became known as friars. The lesser brothers “fratres minores,” lived a humble life in a small deserted house near Assisi and Saint Francis instructed his brothers to walk in the footsteps of Lord Jesus Christ.
