The name Adelanto translates to “progress” or “advance” in Spanish. Which is befitting to the town, as the inventor of the Hotpoint electric iron of 1905, Earl H. Richardson founded it and named it.
The company name “Hotpoint” derives from the revolutionary first iron’s literal hot point at the front of the triangular iron bed. The company was founded in 1911, and it’s portfolio increased beyond that of the electric iron in 1912, to electric cookers in 1919, and became one of the most popular electric toaster brands in the 1920s and 1930s. The first highly popular model of toaster was known as “El Tosto.”
Adelanto tutors describe the process of ironing as using heat to press clothes to remove creases. The name iron is simply the metal historically used to create the device. When clothes are washed the fibers of the material reset into new shapes, more often than not this new form is not flattering and does not uphold the original design aesthetic of the garment. Ironing loosens the ties between the long chains of molecules that exist in polymer fiber materials. It is the heat and weight of the ironing plate that stretches the fibers and restores the garments original shape.
Prior to Richardson’s invention irons were traditionally heated by combustion usually in a fire. U.S. inventor Henry W. Seeley invented the “electric flatiron” in 1882. It weighed in at almost 15 pounds and was not very user friendly. In the 1800’s standard single-family accommodations had a coal fire located in the kitchen. The fire was used primarily for cooking and pots and pans would often sit directly on top of the coals on the fire. An iron would be heated up on a stove, as it could not be placed directly on the coals or else the clothes would turn black from soot or coal dust. As with the pots and pans, removing the iron from the fire was always very dangerous, as the handles of the pots, pans and iron inevitably became hot too. Using the iron necessitated carefully removing the iron wearing a thick mitten or wrapped cloths to avoid being burned. There was then a rush to use the iron before it cooled down and it had to be replaced back onto the stove. Adelanto tutors have said that spitting on the iron was the traditional method used to tell if the iron was hot enough. Ironing was a very time consuming process and could take hours to complete. The invention of the electric iron was a relief to many housewives, as it made this arduous and soul-destroying chore much more tolerable.

Our packages are highly customizable based on your budget, preferred session cadence, time frame, location, and a few other factors. You’ll be presented with clear pricing before you begin. We support families in choosing the session length and cadence that works best for their individual situation; no hard sales tactics and no obligation to purchase a long-term package.
